Political Science

Coming from a small town in northern Vermont, the majority of my life has been contained within the Northeast. I have not travelled much, but my introduction to Austrian culture, as commercialized as it may be, came at a young age. Not a half mile from my home the famous von Trapp family settled down in the rolling hills of New England after having fled Austria right before the Nazi invasion of WWII. However, I very quickly learned that the quintessential reenactment of this family’s journey in the classic 1965 film The Sound of Music did not reflect the reality of the political tension in Western Europe in the 1930s. Since choosing to attend Davidson, my understanding and exposure to a more diverse array of cultures, while still limited, has certainly increased. At Davidson, I have committed myself to further shattering the boundaries of my small New England town. Through a political science major, I hope to gain a more nuanced perception of contemporary political developments, and will be pursuing my studies in Amsterdam this fall.

In my free time, I enjoy playing sports (particularly soccer and ice hockey), spending time outdoors (wandering aimlessly), and baking or cooking.  I would be loathe to admit, that as much as my desire to travel comes from genuine academic curiosity, it is also largely inspired by a passion for food.
