I have lived my whole life in Charleston, South Carolina, and I have always been interested in modern political events as well as the historical contexts from which the present situations arose. From even second grade, I tried to read every book I could on World War II in my school library, and I quickly ran out of books and had to look to the high school library to satisfy my desire to learn more. My fascination with World War II drew me to this trip quickly, and the opportunity to study how the results of World War II have formed our modern world and still can continue to affect our policy decisions. Most of the time, when we learn about history, we learn about historical events from the viewpoint of staterooms full of politicians or from the tent of victor on the battlefield. This trip, however, will give me an opportunity to focus on the more personal aspects of history, and the chance to examine how these historical events and policies are translated out to the regular people.
Some more facts about me, I played baseball growing up my whole life, as well as the Piano for 13 years and the French Horn for 8 years. I learned to sail growing up, and luckily, I have the opportunity to race my neighbor’s sailboat this summer along with 7 or 8 other people, including some overnight races. I also enjoy reading, playing video games, and listening to music.
